We are remodeling our kitchen in a mountain home. The ceiling is 14' vaulted, and an overhead vent is out of the question. We have already purchased a slide-in stove. The problem is all the downdraft vents I have looked at say they can only be used with a cooktop because of the space taken up by the blower box.
Two questions:
1) Can the blower box be mounted on the reverse side? (loss of cabinet space behind the stove is not a problem.)
2) Is the internal blower box completely removed when using an external blower?
I assume the external blower would be the way to go, but with the cost be nearly twice as much, a way to use the internal one would be great.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

isn't it exciting remodeling ??? i just love it. when i redid my kitchen (about a year ago), i found custom range hoods online, and i actually ended up dealing with them. it surprised me since it was a first for me, but all worked out & i'm so happy with my new kitchen. Cheers. Sam
