A side-by-side refrigerator opens in the middle with the freezer on the left and the fresh foods section on the right. It offers comparatively more freezer capacity than a bottom- or top-mount unit, but most will not easily accommodate oversize items such as large turkeys, large frozen pizzas, sheet cakes, or large platters of food. They typically measure 30- to 36-inches wide, with anywhere from 20 to 30 cubic feet of space. Freezer compartments on side-by-side refrigerators less than 36-inches wide are usually too narrow for family usage. The narrow doors don’t intrude into the traffic aisles, so they can be placed opposite an island or used in galley kitchens. Prices typically range from $800 to $2,600. The popular external ice and water dispensing feature is readily available.
