Updraft vent hood
Know a detail we may have missed? Add to our definition by clicking the EasyEdit button above to get started!
Located over a range or cooktop, a vent hood works by using a fan to pull the air up where it passes through filters. The air is then exhausted outdoors through a metal duct or recirculated back into the kitchen. Range hoods can be used as a decorative element and are the most effective way of filtering out odors and reducing steam in a kitchen.
